UCAM athlete Marcus Cooper will be Spanish flag bearer in Paris 24

The canoeist will share this honour with sailor Támara Echegoyen. In Tokyo 2020, every flag bearer for Spain was a UCAM athlete: Mireia Belmonte and Saúl Craviotto at the opening and Sandra Sánchez at the closing.

For the first time ever, the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games will be held outside the stadium. The Seine River will take centre stage on 26 July. The organisation intends for the city to enjoy this event, so all the delegations will be taking a boat trip along the river. They will cover six kilometres, ending at Trocadero, where the rest of the events that will set the long-awaited 2024 Olympic Games in motion will take place. The Spanish team will be led by a man and a woman, as in Tokyo 2020: canoeist Marcus Cooper Walz, a UCAM athlete, and sailor Támara Echegoyen. This was announced today by Alejandro Blanco, President of the Spanish Olympic Committee

Marcus Cooper (Oxford, 1994) opened his Olympic medal haul at Rio 2016 by winning gold in the K1 1000m. Over the last few years he has been a regular member of the Spanish K4, one of the boats that is providing most joy to the sport in our country and in which he won silver in Tokyo. In Paris, he will be competing in this event again alongside UCAM athletes Saúl Craviotto, Rodrigo Germade and Carlos Arévalo, aiming to win another Olympic medal. Támara Echegoyen (Orense, 1985) was Olympic sailing champion in London 12 together with Sofía Toro and Ángela Pumariega in the Elliott class and is taking part in her fourth Olympic Games.
