UCAM and Google bet on the digital transformation of the university
The head of the area of Higher Education for Europe, Africa and the Middle East of the technological giant had an intense day of work at Los Jerónimos Campus, which is undergoing a process of innovation that will turn it into an international benchmark.
Jim Levi, head of Higher Education of Google EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa), visited Los Jerónimos Campus together with Roland Aveillán, head of Sistel’s Business Development Area, to get to know the educational project of UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia and to study ways of collaboration between both entities that reinforce the existing ones. During his stay he held several working meetings to deepen the technological needs and future plans of UCAM to find common ground in which Google could participate.
The research and teaching field offers many possibilities in this collaboration for Jim Levi: “UCAM already uses Google applications. Now we have discussed other possibilities such as ‘Cloud’ applications to support research and teaching. We have some programmes that are available and we hope UCAM can use them”.
During his visit, Levi was surprised by “the growth of the university and the number of postgraduate students. It is nice to be at an institution that is growing and being very successful. I have also been impressed by the commitment to sports at this institution. It is quite unusual, especially for the emphasis that stem from it and the great triumphs they are achieving”.
Samuel Mendoza, director of Technological Development of UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, highlighted the many possibilities offered by an alliance with Google, especially in the framework of the digital transformation the educational institution is living at the moment: “They have very innovative tools, artificial intelligence or Big Data techniques and applications that would help in the digital strategy of the university with the idea of improving the experience of students and teachers. And not only regarding teaching, but it would also work with the internal university management to speed up all processes”.
