UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia is also one of the few universities in Spain to have a female Chancellor, Josefina García Lozano, and many of its bachelor’s degree and postgraduate courses, chairs and services are headed by women.
UCAM will provide the regional administration with all the information, technology and applications deriving from the artificial intelligence project ‘SMARTLAGOON’ to achieve the sustainability of the salt lagoon
The research that UCAM is carrying out with its own funds has collected around fifteen thousand euros in contributions through the FECYT crowdfunding platform Precipita, which belongs to the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
Through the European Union’s elite programme ‘Horizon 2020’, experts from six countries will create a digital model, using artificial intelligence, to monitor the salt lagoon and ensure its sustainability. ‘SMARTLAGOON’ will be replicated in other natural areas across the continent.
The ‘Life Age’ European Project, led by UCAM, ends with an international ‘online’ meeting in which the benefits of physical activity for the improvement of the quality of life of older people are highlighted
These researches are initiatives of the Chair of Social Responsibility and the International Projects Office of UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia
The project, included in the Precipita platform of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), which belongs to the Ministry of Science and Innovation, is directed by the UCAM researchers Juan Carlos Izpisúa, Professor of Developmental Biology; José Meca, neurologist and Head of Unit at the Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca and Estrella Núñez, vice-chancellor for Research
The Vice-chancellor, Estrella Núñez, and the professor of Developmental Biology of UCAM Universidad Católica de Murcia, Juan Carlos Izpisua, lead the project that is carried out in the laboratories of the Los Jerónimos Campus and of the Salk Institute of La Jolla, California, and is funded by Fundación Séneca
These are multidisciplinary studies that will be developed by researchers from different areas of knowledge of UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia to solve or mitigate health, economic and socio-cultural problems caused by the pandemic
