In the context of the Jubilee of Hope in 2025 the Vatican held its first summit on longevity, which was attended by leading scientists, including Nobel laureates in chemistry and medicine, Venkatraman Ramakrishnan and Shyn' ya Yamanaka and Spain's Juan Carlos Izpisúa, UCAM Professor of Developmental Biology and Director of the San Diego Science Institute, Altos Labs

María Dolores García, UCAM president, travelled to Rome to attend this event, ay which she had an affectionate meeting with the three scientists, as well as with the priest Alberto Carrara, president of the International Institute of Neurobioethics.

Ensuring quality ageing

The event addressed a crucial challenge of our time: ensuring sustainable ageing and a future in which quality and length of life coexist. Juan Carlos Izpisúa, who gave the lecture ‘Restoration of cellular health and disease reversal through cellular rejuvenation’, thanked UCAM, its founder, José Luis Mendoza, and its president, for their commitment to his research.

For years UCAM has been collaborating with the Albacete scientist by promoting and financing his research, in which excellence and respect for ethical principles, which are fundamental for this institution, are paramount.

For his part, Shyn'ya Yamanaka, who gave a master class, also met the president and founder of the University a few years ago, on the occasion of the event in which the Royal Academy of Medicine of Spain named the Japanese scientist an Honorary Academician.

Furthermore, during her trip to Rome, the UCAM president met with Pietro Parolin, head of the Vatican Secretariat of State.
