From the UCAM classrooms and clinics to the heart of the Olympic health team: six professionals linked to the UCAM Degree in Dentistry will collaborate with the Medical Services of Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo 2026 (6-22 February), contributing their experience during the development of this renown international sporting event.

UCAM's participation in one of the major sporting events of the year highlights the academic and professional projection of the University in the field of health and high-level sport, as well as the recognition of the preparation and specialisation of its teaching staff, graduates and students, who will form part of a highly demanding health system.

The UCAM team is made up of Manuel Máiquez, Vice-Dean of the Degree in Dentistry; Alejandro de la Parte, lecturer of the Master’s Degree in Dentistry, Francisca García, lecturer; Mike Saint-Hilaire, dentist at UCAM Dental; Marco Grande, alumni and linked to Master’s Degree in Dentistry; and Raquel Sanjuán, student of this Master’s Degree.

The University professionals will work at various Olympic venues, providing assistance at ice hockey, alpine skiing and ski mountaineering competitions. These are physically demanding disciplines in which dental care is key to both the prevention and treatment of orofacial trauma and emergencies. Against this backdrop, Manuel Máiquez stressed that ‘the historic milestone is that most of the dentists are Italian and only a few Spaniards are going, all of them linked to UCAM, which is a huge achievement and the result of many months of teamwork’.

The UCAM team will work as part of multidisciplinary medical teams, together with specialists in emergencies, maxillofacial surgery and traumatology, offering direct care to athletes during training and competitions, in an environment marked by high physical demands and competitive pressure.

This collaboration has materialised after a demanding selection and preparation process, which has required the approval of qualifications and compliance with the criteria established by the International Olympic Committee. Manuel Máiquez already has extensive experience in the field of sports dentistry, treating top athletes such as the fighter Ilia Topuria (UFC), the taekwondo athlete Adriana Cerezo and Olympians in disciplines as diverse as hockey, athletics and boxing, among others.
