The first Solidarity Run against Multiple Sclerosis UCAM - AMDEM held in December 2022 in the centre of Murcia, was a resounding success in terms of participation. Members of the board of the Murcian Association of Multiple Sclerosis were at the Campus de Los Jerónimos yesterday to collect the proceeds of this initiative, which amounted to 11,872 euros. María Dolores García, UCAM president, presented the symbolic cheque to Mateo Mateos, vice-president of AMDEM.

‘These funds will be used to strengthen our physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, neuropsychology, social work, marketing service... In short, everything that helps us to strengthen the structure of our association’, said Mateo Mateos after the event. María Mendoza, member of the Board of Trustees of the Fundación Universitaria San Antonio (San Antonio University Foundation), highlighted the importance of collaborating with associations such as AMDEM for UCAM, as ‘the Universidad Católica goes above and beyond when it comes to getting involved. It is for this reason that we highlight our cornerstones in actions like this one: sports, with the organisation of the race; evangelisation, through volunteering; and social work and research, which is a very important step towards achieving advances in favour of those suffering from multiple sclerosis’.

The second edition on 8 October

Pablo Rosique, Director of Sports at UCAM, said that ‘we were very happy with last year's race, and so were the participants. It was wonderful how AMDEM treated its volunteers. We want to ensure continuity, and we are planning ahead, so that the event will coincide with fewer other races this year. Like this, all interested runners can take part. Sunday 8 October is a very good date, and we have agreed on it with the Athletics Federation. We are already taking the necessary steps to make it a very important event on the calendar every year’.
