The Goyeneche Auditorium was the setting for the traditional Gala of the Spanish Olympic Committee which closed an atypical sporting year, reflected in the strict anti-COVID measures of the event applied by the organisation. This year the house of the Olympic movement honoured the Spanish women who have won an Olympic medal, including many athletes from UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia.

One by one, and respecting the safety distance at all times, they collected their diplomas in three batches, depending on the most valuable metal they have won so far in the Olympic Games. One of the bronze medallists was a sportswoman linked to UCAM, Leire Olaberria (track cycling - bronze in Beijing 08); in the silver category there were two: Eva Calvo (taekwondo – silver in Rio 16) and Laura Gil (basketball – silver in Rio 16) from Murcia; and in the gold category, nothing less than six: Mireia Belmonte (swimming – gold and bronze in Rio 16 and double silver in London 12), Lydia Valentín (weight-lifting – gold in London 12, silver in Beijing 08 and bronze in Rio 16), Sofía Toro and Ángela Pumariega (sailing – gold in London 12), Maialen Chourraut (canoe slalom – gold in Rio 16 and bronze in London 12) and Ruth Beitia (athletics – gold in Rio 16). Artemi Gavezou and Sandra Aguilar, both silver medallists in rhythmic gymnastics in Rio 16, did not attend the event, but they were also honoured.

Advertising and Public Relations, Computer Science Engineering, Food Science and Technology, Psychology or Business Administration and Management are some of the degrees studied by the UCAM athletes.

José Luis Mendoza, President of UCAM and representative of the clubs to the COE Assembly, was present at a ceremony attended by Pedro Sánchez, Spanish Prime Minister; José Manuel Rodríguez, Minister of Culture and Sports; Alejandro Blanco, President of the COE, and Irene Lozano, President of the Higher Sports Council.
