Training and Technology for a Safer Society
Abarán hosts the UCAM conference on Criminology, Mediation, and Criminal Justice
The UCAM Bachelor's Degree in Criminology, in collaboration with the Abarán Local Police Headquarters, has organised the 1st Conference on Security and Criminology, held in the Cima Building in the Abarán. These training sessions, aimed at university students, members of the law enforcement agencies and professionals in the legal and criminological sector, offer a space for analysis and debate on contemporary challenges in the field of security.
The two-day event will see participants delve into topics such as new technologies applied to criminal investigation, criminal psychology, the use of drones in policing, restorative justice and forensic medicine, among others. The sessions are given by specialists from the Guardia Civil, academics and experts in mediation, making the event a first-rate training opportunity.
At the opening of the conference, Jesús Gómez, Mayor of Abarán, thanked UCAM for the trust placed in his municipality, highlighting the pioneering nature of these conferences: ‘For Abarán, this is something unprecedented. I fully support the commitment to work for public safety and to do so hand in hand with a science such as criminology in order to collaborate for the benefit of police officers.’
Meanwhile, César Giner, Director of the UCAM Master's Degree in Security Sciences, emphasised the importance of transferring academic knowledge to society: ‘What is the purpose of this conference? We wanted to bring the science of criminology to society, with the aim of making cities safer, as is the case in Abarán.’ Giner highlighted the comprehensive approach of the conference, which covered topics ranging from civil protection and mediation to criminal law analysis and forensic tools.
This initiative has helped strengthen the link between academia and the actors involved in the justice and security system, creating a space for debate, reflection, and cooperation that directly benefits both students and professionals.
