The UCAM will exceed the participation record at the Paris 2024 Games , surpassing the numbers of Tokyo 20. However, in some way history will repeat itself. Among the 79 UCAM athletes are the flag bearers of the Spanish Olympic team, Marcus Cooper (canoeing) and Támara Echegoyen (sailing), who will lead the Spanish delegation in the opening ceremony that will take place on Friday 26 July. This already occurred in Japan, when the pair was formed by UCAM athletes Saul Craviotto and Mireia Belmonte.

In total, UCAM will be represented in Paris in 25 sports, aiming to repeat and even improve on the great successes achieved in Tokyo 20, where it won 23 medals (17 Olympic and 6 Paralympic) and 31 diplomas (19 Olympic and 12 Paralympic).

Athletics and canoeing will be the sports with most UCAM representatives, eleven in each, where there will be serious medal chances. Such is the case for Saúl Craviotto, a member of the K4 (canoeing), who could win his sixth medal, which would place him as the absolute leader in the history of Spanish Olympics, a place he currently shares with David Cal (also UCAM) with 5 medals. Craviotto competes alongside three other UCAM paddlers: Marcus Cooper, Rodrigo Germade and Carlos ArevaloMaria Perez and Diego Garcia are also among the big favourites for the 20km mixed race walk, their first time at the Games.

Other well-known Spanish sports stars related to UCAM will be Carolina Marín (Olympic badminton champion in Rio 16), Maialen Chourraut (gold, silver and bronze in three different Games in slalom canoeing), Fátima Gálvez and Alberto Fernández (gold in Olympic shooting in Tokyo), Ray Zapata (silver in gymnastics in Tokyo) and Adriana Cerezo (silver in taekwondo in Tokyo). Canoeist Teresa Portela, for whom these will be her seventh Olympic Games, having finished runner-up in Tokyo, deserves a special mention.

Murcians related to UCAM

The Region of Murcia is also extremely present among the UCAM athletes, with the captain of the Women's Basketball National Team, Laura Gil; the UCAM Cartagena Table Tennis player María Xiao; the footballer Eva Navarro, the athlete walker Miguel Ángel López and the coach in this discipline, José Antonio Carrillo. In the Paralympic team there is also Murcian representation with the members of UCAM Murcia BSR (wheelchair basketball) led by Sonia Ruiz.

Paralympics at the end of August

The Paralympic Games will begin on 28 August with a large number of UCAM athletes, particularly in wheelchair basketball, where there will be nine athletes from the University; seven in the Spanish team and two in the English team. In addition, there will be UCAM athletes in athletics, swimming and cycling.
