UCAM shows the heritage of the Region of Murcia through international artists
The streets and monuments of the Region served as a source of inspiration for ten multidisciplinary artists from countries such as Italy, Romania and Slovenia, who presented their works at the ‘UCAM Refresh Week’.
The second edition of the ‘UCAM Refresh Week’, which was held from 25 to 29 November, was a week in which ten artists from Slovenia, Italy and Romania travelled to Murcia to learn about the cultural heritage of the Region and be inspired by it to make their subsequent works. During those days they visited some of the cultural points of the Region, such as the Cathedral of Murcia, the Wall of Murcia, the Casino of Murcia, the Museum of Modern Art of Cartagena or the Roman Theatre of Cartagena.
This event, carried out in collaboration between the Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication and the Bachelor’s Degree in Dance, and managed through the International Projects Office, also had various activities related to the arts of photography, dance, film, painting, sculpture, etc. Training workshops, performances and exhibitions were also held.
The three partner countries presented the final result of their works, after having known the Murcian culture, in the closing ceremony of the event in which María de la Esperanza Moreno, Minister for Education and Culture of the Region of Murcia; Estrella, Núñez, vice-chancellor for Research, and Pablo Cano, director of the International Projects Office (OPRI) participated.
This was the end of a multicultural week that focused on the heritage of the Region of Murcia with the aim of showing and enhancing it, as well as celebrating its diversity and sharing its values with future generations.
Works based on different arts
“Murcia has hypnotised me not only through landscapes and architecture, but especially through its people: their energy, smile and good humour. Their kindness reminded me of home”. With these words, the Romanian artist Eduard Verde described what motivated him most in the Region and what he expressed in his work ‘I see you’.
For her part, the Romanian artist Eveline Enescu presented her work ‘Reflecting Murcia’, made up of six photographs in which the contrast between old architecture and new buildings stands out, along with the constant coming and going of its inhabitants through its streets. Likewise, participants from the four countries involved in the project performed ‘Ithaka’, inspired by a poem by the Greek poet Constantine Peter Cavafy, which highlighted the essence of the Mediterranean.
