UCAM ranks among Europe's best universities in terms of academic reputation and employer reputation
The QS World University Rankings Europe 26 ranks UCAM Murcia 301+ in Europe in these two areas, and globally in the 511-520 range on the continent, where there are nearly 5,000 higher education institutions, placing it in the Top 10 private universities in Spain. Its growth in research is also noteworthy, ranking it 9th in Spain (out of 62) in terms of international student diversity.
Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the prestigious company specialising in the analysis of higher education institutions around the world, has published its latest report analysing the European university system. In it, it once again highlights the excellence of the UCAM educational model, reflecting particularly good results in the indicators 'Academic Reputation' and 'Employer Reputation' -which carry great weight in the overall evaluation of the ranking- placing it in the 301+ range in both. UCAM's position in these fields is due to the quality of its training and the positive perception that employers have of its graduates. This is recognition of its excellence and its close links with business, promoting a real knowledge transfer to the productive fabric and society.
The ranking also recognises UCAM's sustained growth in foreign students and teaching staff. The institution stands out for the multiculturalism of its campuses, with students from 127 nationalities, placing it in the Top 252 European universities in terms of international student diversity –9th in Spain– thanks to its commitment to internationalisation, the promotion of mobility among its students and the attraction of students from other countries. It also ranks 15th in terms of the proportion of international teaching staff among the 62 Spanish universities present, again significantly improving its figures in this field. It should be noted that UCAM is the region's university – as well as one of the first in Spain – to offer most degrees in English, both at undergraduate level (Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Dentistry, Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, Psychology, Veterinary Medicine and International Relations) and at postgraduate level.
Research
Another indicator in which UCAM has experienced significant growth is the impact of its research. According to QS, articles published by UCAM received 33% more citations than in the previous edition of its ranking (excluding self-citations), reflecting its scientific strength and relevance. Since its onset, the institution has been committed to applied research that responds to the needs of society. To ensure this, it launched its high-tech incubator in health, sport and nutrition, ‘UCAM HiTech’, which, despite its short history, has already become a national benchmark: it has supported over 300 start-ups and trained more than 800 people in scientific entrepreneurship – in areas such as financing, artificial intelligence, marketing and business management – with programmes developed in different autonomous communities and co-financed by European funds. Added to this is the institution's own research carried out within the hub itself, through UCAM-SENS and the Molecular Biology Laboratory, among others.
The Madrid Campus has become a reality
UCAM is expanding rapidly, with the recent inauguration of its new UCAM-COE Campus in Madrid, which joins those in Murcia and Cartagena. The University is preparing to start classes in Torrejón de Ardoz in September with the introduction of degrees in Physiotherapy, Psychology, Nursing, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and Food Science and Technology, although activity already began last weekend with the presence of 200 online undergraduate and postgraduate students who took their assessment tests there.
