UCAM marks European Doctorate Day
More than 100 undergraduate, master's, and trainee researchers gathered at the Los Jerónimos campus to celebrate this inaugural event, which featured participation from 20 Spanish universities
May 13th has been established as European Doctorate Day, a date created to commemorate the origins of doctoral studies in Europe and to promote a research model based on the generation of knowledge. UCAM has been among the 20 pioneering Spanish university institutions to celebrate this event and served as the sole host in the Region of Murcia. The day featured over 170 simultaneous activities organized by international doctoral schools.
Over a hundred students from undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs—representing fields such as Medicine, Engineering, and Law—explored the value of this educational stage, its interdisciplinary nature, and the diverse career opportunities linked to these studies. These topics were addressed through UCAM’s four doctoral programs currently accredited by ANECA (the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation), highlighting success stories from completed doctoral theses.
Examples of such research include breakthroughs in:
- Drug discovery for combating colorectal cancer.
- The improvement of wastewater treatment systems.
- Enhancing the athletic performance of elite competitors.
According to the Vice-Rector for Research, Estrella Núñez, these results reflect that "at UCAM, once again, we are clear about our social mission: not only training undergraduate and master's students and conducting cutting-edge research, but also training doctors capable of giving back to society the investment made in their education".
