UCAM Launches International School of Film
Representatives from the film industry attended the official presentation at the Francisco Rabal Regional Cinematheque
Academic excellence, professional practice, and employability within the cinematic sector are the cornerstones of the newly established UCAM International School of Film. The project was officially unveiled during an event held at the Francisco Rabal Regional Cinematheque.
The film and audiovisual industry in the Region of Murcia is currently experiencing a period of significant expansion, driven by major infrastructure projects and technological investments such as Murcia Film Studios, the Murcia Audiovisual HUB, and the Region of Murcia Film Commission. To meet the growing demand for skilled professionals, UCAM has created this school to provide specialized training that prepares students for immediate integration into the regional, national, and international industry.
Expert-Led Training
The programs will be taught by leading industry figures, including Antonio Giménez-Palazón, director of the UCAM/Bext Master’s in Marketing and Communication for the Entertainment Industry—a degree now integrated into the Film School. Giménez-Palazón notably contributed to the marketing strategies for the films ‘Frankenstein’ and ‘F1’, both of which were honored at the 2026 Academy Awards.
The presentation featured:
- Juan Francisco Hernández, Director of the UCAM International School of Film.
- Pablo Blesa, Dean of the Faculty of Communication.
- Manuel Cebríán, Director of the Institute of Cultural Industries and Arts of the Region of Murcia.
- Alejandro Rius, Director of CINEMUR.
The event brought together key representatives from the regional, national, and international film landscape, including the Director of the School alongside the program coordinators and representatives from various audiovisual industry associations.
A Growing Hub for Production
During the event, Juan Francisco Hernández emphasized that the school will "deliver highly relevant training programs essential for professionalizing our students, ensuring they enter the sector with the highest guarantees of success." Manuel Cebrián added that the audiovisual sector is "in an exciting moment for everyone. This year, we have once again broken records for filming productions, series, features, and advertising."
The new school is supported by several major audiovisual associations, including CINEMUR, APROMUR, ARTV, AMMA, and UARM. It integrates undergraduate degrees, master’s degrees, and specialized programs designed in direct collaboration with the industry. This structure ensures that students receive up-to-date, competitive training focused on real market demands.
Student Perspectives
The presentation was also attended by current students, such as Abril Elorza from San Sebastián. She highlighted that she chose UCAM because "Murcia offers a wealth of opportunities in the entertainment industry. Many productions are coming to Spain, but there is a shortage of professionals because the necessary training didn't exist until now."
