UCAM encourages European cultural exchange through dance
Coordinated by the OPRI, UCAM’s International Projects Office, and co-financed by the European Union, the project “Dance your way” encourages cultural exchange in Europe through to that discipline
Catalina Castro Colomer, student in the Master of Dance and Arts of the Movement and member of the dance company of the University, travelled to Timisoara (Romania) with the project “Dance your way”, to support youth cultural exchange between European countries. During 9 days, 30 young people coming from 5 countries took part in different dance classes to teach their own typical dances and learn from the others’.
“I learned a lot from this trip, knowing other countries, others types of dances that brought me quite a few assets, at a personal and professional level” declares the young Spanish. “I would like to thank the University for the experiment. The cultural exchange among us was really strong and we learned a lot about the countries of the European Union in a few days”.
During her stay, Catalina also had to present the cultural wealth of the Iberian Peninsula, through a demonstration of Sevillanas during a night dedicated to Spanish culture. At the end of the stay, the international group organized a flash mob on the main square of the city. Besides the cultural exchanges and gastronomy discoveries, this travel enabled the dancer to improve her level in English, an important skill to enter the labour market.
