UCAM, the University of Sport in Europe, has once again excelled by winning first place in the medal table of the Spanish University Championships – for the thirteenth consecutive year. This year 2023/24 closes with an impressive 146 medals (101 gold, 27 silver and 18 bronze), achieving a lead of 90 gold medals over our main rival, the Universidad de Barcelona.

UCAM athletes competed at an exceptional level, reaching the podium in almost every competition. In swimming, the UCAM team won 54 medals (35 golds, 12 silvers and 7 bronzes). Furthermore, four of our swimmers stood out, winning all the events they competed in: Nacho Campos (9 gold medals), Alba Guillamón (8 golds), Diego Mira (7 golds) and Julia Pujadas (7 golds). Paralympic swimmer José Antonio Marí also excelled in adapted swimming (2 gold medals and 2 bronze medals).

In athletics, the numbers were also spectacular. With 15 athletes winning Spanish university championships, UCAM brought back twenty-one medals from Ciudad Real, including the gold medal won by Abubaker Hayder in the 800m. The Qatari star not only mastered the distance, but also beat the Olympic qualifying standard for Paris 2024

The results obtained by Universidad Católica athletes in weightlifting (11 medals), taekwondo (9), tennis (8), badminton (6), karate (5) and table tennis (5) were also remarkable. In addition, another seven medals came from team sports such as volleyball, beach volleyball, basketball, futsal and 3x3 basketball.

Thanks to these results, UCAM is at the top of the overall medal table by universities, with 101 gold medals in this edition, followed by the Universidad de Barcelona (11 gold medals) and the Universidad de Valencia (10 gold medals).
