UCAM – COE: ‘United by the same spirit’

The Spanish Olympic team, which is already in Tokyo, where the inauguration ceremony will be held this Friday, will experience unusual Games due to the absence of the public, but it will perceive the beat of its fans through the campaign launched by the alliance between UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia and the Spanish Olympic Committee.
UCAM-COE campaign: United by the same spirit

In Summer 2020, the athletes who compose the UCAM-COE alliance joined the campaign ‘Por una España con valores’ (For a Spain with values) to transmit to society a message of encouragement to go out of the health, economic and social crisis provoked by the coronavirus pandemic. The athletes set an example for everybody since they did not stop training, not even one day, despite the situation. These sports value that refer to self-improvement, respect, team spirit and effort are the ones that the initiative of UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia and the Spanish Olympic Committee wanted to reflect.

One year later, these athletes are at the threshold of the Olympic Games of Tokyo, they carry with them the love, and affection of their relatives and friends and of the entire country, as it can be seen in the video of the new UCAM-COE campaign. These Games will be unusual since there will be no audience and the athletes will not feel the warmth of their fans. For this reason, UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia and the Spanish Olympic Committee want to make it clear to them that they can count on the supports of Spanish citizens and that during the competition we will be ‘United by the same spirit’, as well as the two institutions promoting this initiative.

Together with the athletes, the relatives and actual friends of Mireia Belmonte, Saúl Craviotto, Lydia Valentín and Damián Quintero participated in the video.

The Spanish delegation is already in Tokyo

The COE informed that the majority of the Spanish team is already in Tokyo. The opening ceremony will be held on 23 July, and the competitions, which will last until next 8 August, will commence the day before. More than 60 athletes belong to the UCAM-COE alliance. In total, there will be more than 70 representatives of UCAM at the Olympic Games of Tokyo including the Paralympic athletes, who will compete later, the trainers and the medical staff.
