UCAM athletes shine at the National Sports Gala 2019
The awards ceremony was held in La Nucía by the Spanish Sports Press Association, where a lot of athletes from the Catholic University of Murcia were among the awarded
UCAM sports family was very present at the National Sports Gala celebrated in La Nucía (Alicante). The awards, handed over by the Spanish Sports Press Association, acknowledges the best of 2018 and they display some of the sport journeys of some of the most legendary figures in Spanish sports, women athletes being the main characters displayed at this special edition, women athletes who lead the way, and were the first big Spanish champions at international level.
Among the UCAM athletes awarded was Ana Carrasco, world champion in Superbikes who was given the award by José Luis Mendoza, president of the Catholic University. The karatekas, Damián Quintero and Sandra Sánchez and the walker María Pérez, also received their well deserved awards. Swimmer Teresa Perales picked up the acknowledgement on behalf of all of the swimmers in the Spanish paralympic team, as the team keeps on having great results internationally. The award received by Alejandro Valverde, an athlete from Murcia, must also be highlighted, as UCAM collaborates with him in one of the core teams ‘Valverde Team’.
One of the journeys presented at the Gala was the sports trajectory of Ruth Beitia, who is still associated with the university even after her retirement.
