UCAM and the Spanish Olympic Committee inspired young people on Olympic Day celebrated in Torrejón

Ten Olympians showed their commitment to sport at UCAM and its imminent introduction in the city. During the day, a sponsorship agreement was signed with Club Voleibol Torrejón, which will now be called UCAM Torrejón Voleibol.

UCAM participated in Olympic Day at the Joaquín Blume Sports Complex in Torrejón de Ardoz, an event organised by the Spanish Olympic Committee and the Madrid City Council, which brought together thousands of attendees, especially schoolchildren and their families, who were able to try out 29 sports free of charge. This celebration was an opportunity to showcase the spirit of the UCAM-Spanish Olympic Committee alliance and strengthen ties with the town where UCAM will soon open a new campus.

The event was attended by prominent Olympic athletes linked to UCAM, such as David Cal, Alberto Fernández, María Pérez, Ayoub Ghadfa, Diego García, Javier Pérez, Paco Cubelos, Elia Canales, Pablo Abián and Raquel González. They were joined by many children and young people who took part in sports activities and had the opportunity to meet these international sporting icons.

One of the highlights was the activity organised by the UCAM Faculty of Sport, in which both children and adults were able to test their physical fitness. In addition, the UCAM-Spanish Olympic Committee athletes signed autographs for the attendees, who took home a souvenir of their sporting idols.

UCAM President, María Dolores García, expressed her satisfaction with the event: ‘This is a day to highlight sport, athletes and the Olympic world. Seeing how this activity can encourage young people to dream of becoming Olympians one day is what really gives meaning to all this effort. At UCAM, we are here to put down roots in Torrejón and collaborate in any way we can with the city.’

The President of the Spanish Olympic CommitteeAlejandro Blanco, stressed the importance of the new headquarters that will open in September: ‘Olympic Day, UCAM and Torrejón are united today by a university-sports project that will be an international benchmark. This new UCAM-Spanish Olympic Committee headquarters represents a huge qualitative leap forward in our joint commitment to education and sport.’

Meanwhile, the mayor of Torrejón de ArdozAlejandro Navarro, highlighted the positive impact of this project: ‘This is a very special day, marking an alliance that will benefit everyone in Torrejón. Torrejón will be a place where dreams related to sport and university education can come true’.

Among the participating athletes, canoeist Paco Cubelosstudent of the Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, highlighted the University's social involvement: ‘UCAM is once again demonstrating its commitment to conveying values through sport and bringing it to all levels of society. This new step in Madrid is very exciting for those of us who are already part of it and for those who will come in the future’.

Archer Elia Canalesstudent of the Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Commercial Management, valued her participation in the event: ‘Raising awareness about Olympic Day among children is key to inspiring vocations and showing them that dreams can come true’.

Agreement with Torrejón Volleyball Club

This event also served as the setting for a particularly important announcement: UCAM has become the main sponsor of Club Voleibol Torrejón, which will now be called UCAM Torrejón Voleibol. The agreement was signed by María Dolores García and Sabrina de la Peña, president of the club, in a ceremony symbolising the UCAM's long-standing commitment to sport in the city.
