Keeping up-to-date with knowledge is key for any professional in today's world, where everything evolves so quickly. This is why the Universidad Católica de Murcia and the General Council of Professional Associations of Social Graduates of Spain have renewed their collaboration agreement within the framework of the International Chair in Labour Law and Social Security. They have been working together for some time on research, training and scientific dissemination through conferences in the field of labour law and social security.

María Dolores García, UCAM President, and Joaquín Merchán, President of the General Council of Social Graduates of Spain, have signed the agreement, which also appoints Merchán as the new Chair Director. On behalf of the UCAM, the following people were also present at the event: Josefina García, Rector; Jaime Sánchez Vizcaíno, Dean of the Faculty of Law; Manuel Carlos Ruiz, Vice-Rector of Quality and Academic Planning; Isabel Mendoza, member of the Board of Trustees of the Fundación Universitaria San Antonio, and Rafael García-Purriños, Vice-Dean of the Degree in Labour Relations and Human Resources; as well as Alfonso Hernández, Dean of the Association of Social Graduates of Murcia.

This agreement strengthens the collaboration between UCAM and CGCOGSE, as it ‘offers something that is very important and that we have been promoting in this General Council of Social Graduates: training; emphasising the importance of keeping up to date’, said Joaquín Merchán. As part of its educational offer, UCAM has a Bachelor's Degree in Labour Relations and Human Resources, a Master's Degree in Continuing Education in Legal-Labour Consultancy, as well as micro-credentials in professional mediation for social graduates.

Lecture by Juan Martínez, Social Affairs Magistrate of the Spanish Supreme Court, on the impact of AI

After the signing of the agreement, Juan Martínez, magistrate of the Social Affairs Chamber of the Spanish Supreme Court, gave a talk on artificial intelligence in labour relations, both at the regulatory level and in the field of labour relations dynamics. ‘Artificial intelligence is here to stay, it is a turning point, and the proof is in the social, political and economic context we are experiencing, where the great gurus of technology are at the centres of power’, he said. He also emphasised the importance of the European Union ‘in terms of knowing how to channel the power of artificial intelligence. But it must be looked at bearing in mind the ethical aspect and the importance of the human factor and the dignity of the person in the use of artificial intelligence, particularly in terms of labour relations’.
