UCAM and Astrapace launch a pioneering course on social networks for young people with disabilities
Learning by Communicating promotes digital inclusion through the safe and critical use of digital platforms
UCAM and Asociación Astrapace have strengthened their collaboration with the launch of the course Learning by Communicating, an innovative training project aimed at people with intellectual disabilities that will begin in April and run until November. The course, designed and coordinated by the UCAM International Chair in Social Responsibility, aims to provide tools for the appropriate and critical use of social networks, promoting digital inclusion and the personal development of participants.
The presentation of this initiative took place at the Los Jerónimos Monastery, headquarters of the University, at a meeting between María Dolores García, UCAM President, and Rosa García, President of Astrapace, who reaffirmed their commitment to promoting inclusive training and support for people with disabilities.
José María Guirado, trainer and employment counsellor at the Astrapace Employment Service, emphasised that this activity ‘seems very attractive and innovative to us, as social networks are booming and people with disabilities also have to be included in all areas of society and in its progress’. Guirado also emphasised the value of the course as a pilot project, in which young people from Astrapace's Personal Autonomy Promotion Service will participate.
Meanwhile, Víctor Meseguer, Director of the International Chair in Social Responsibility, emphasised the importance of the personalised nature of this training: ‘Through continuous assessment, we will be able to provide individualised guidance to each student so that they can constantly improve their skills’. Laura Callejón, the Chair's social media manager, has stated that the main objective of the course is for ‘the students to learn to use social media safely, understanding both its benefits and its risks, and to feel like they are protagonists of the digital world’.
The programme consists of monthly sessions lasting an hour and a half, which will take place at the UCAM Faculty of Communication, and in the radio and television studios.
