Saúl Craviotto: “My hope remains intact”

Saúl Craviotto (Lleida, 1984) has won four Olympic medals (two gold, one silver and one bronze). Next summer he could reach the top of his sporting career with the fifth prize in Tokyo 2020, since he is one of the members of the Spanish K4, one of the major assets of the Spanish team for the next Olympic Games. If he could make it onto the podium, he would reach David Cal with five medals at the top of Spanish sport.

The canoeist visited the Catholic University of Murcia and took the opportunity to analyse his current moment and the possibility of winning another Olympic medal in 2020: “If I was told I was going to win even a single Olympic medal when I started competing, I would not have believed it. I have far exceeded all my expectations. I have already surpassed any red line marked throughout my sporting career and I am living a dream. At this point, I just want more. I am really well physically and my hope remains intact. I believe we can do something great in Tokyo and we are working for it”.

In addition, he is among the favourite candidates to be appointed as flag bearer for Spain at the opening ceremony in Tokyo 2020: “I would love to be chosen and that would make me the happiest person in the world. The greatest I can hope for is to bear the flag of my country. If they decide not to choose me, I will support whoever bears it and I will go behind very proudly. We are not going there as different teams, but as Spain and our goal is to bring as many medals as possible to our country”.

David Cal, who currently works at the UCAM Sports Service, talked to him about the possibility of getting his fifth Olympic medal and reaching his position in the Spanish record: “I think he is qualified for it. He has an enviable career and has a chance of winning his fifth medal that could be six if he competed for two distances. I will congratulate him in any case and I will be very happy for him”.
