Experts from all over Spain deal with the advances in multiple sclerosis, which affects more than 1,500 Murcians
The 4th National Course on Multiple Sclerosis and Cognition, which is held in UCAM under the guidance of doctor José Meca Lallana, will end tomorrow after three intense days of conferences, panel discussions and workshops in which more than 40 specialists intervened.
The 4th National Course on Multiple Sclerosis and Cognition aims at promoting the training regarding the treatment of multiple sclerosis, a chronic illness that affects the central nervous system, which is why conferences, panel discussions and workshops on the latest advances related to this illness were organised. Neurologists, neuropsychologists, nurses and other healthcare staff participate in it.
The director of the congress is doctor José Meca Lallana, head of the Multiple Sclerosis Unit of the Hospital Clínico Universitario Virgen de la Arrixaca and director of the Chair of Clinical Neurology and Multiple Sclerosis of UCAM Universidad Católica de Murcia. Regarding the latest advances in the treatment of this illness, he explained that “the studies on the drugs that we use handle well the response to variables such as mobility, although the cognitive effects, that up until now have been treated as secondary, continue being a challenge”.
Regarding the treatment of the persons affected, doctor Meca highlighted that this is a good moment “since any patient suffering from this illness in the Region of Murcia has access both to a diagnosis and to drugs” and, at a national level “in general, access to treatment is granted”.
