From the Degree in Dance at UCAM to the Olympic Winter Games
The ice-skater Laura Barquero will be the first Spanish ice-skater in history to compete in the pairs category, alongside Marco Zandron
This Friday, February 4, the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games will commence and a UCAM student is among the fourteen Spanish ice-skaters who will be part of our country's delegation: Laura Barquero. Aged twenty, she will be making her Olympic debut in the pairs ice figure skating category, alongside Marco Zandron; an event in which a Spanish duo has never competed before.
We will have to wait to see her on the ice, as she will not compete until the penultimate day of the Games. She will take part in the short program on 18 February, and in the long program the following day if they qualify among the top 16 pairs.
Barquero is studying Dance at UCAM, where she is in her second year. She will arrive in Beijing as the reigning Spanish champion, after making her debut in a European Championships with an outstanding ninth place.
The UCAM - COE alliance and the great success of Tokyo
Last summer, at the Tokyo Games, UCAM was the university with the largest representation in the world; 81 members of the UCAM-COE alliance (75 athletes, 3 doctors and 3 technicians) took part in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The result was stellar, 23 medallists and 31 diplomas.
