The UCAM president, María Dolores García, has been awarded the ‘Resucitó’ award by the Cofradía de Nuestro Padre Jesús Resucitado (Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Resurrected), during the Cabildo General Ordinario de las Monas (Ordinary General Award Assembly), held this Saturday in the Auditorium of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena. An event that symbolises the start of Holy Week in the port city and which also acknowledged the remarkable growth of the brotherhood in recent years.

María Dolores García received the award in recognition of her firm commitment to the promotion of Christian values, as well as her active involvement in the promotion and preservation of Cartagena's religious and cultural traditions. In her speech during the ceremony, the UCAM president expressed her ‘pride in taking part in this meeting of faith, tradition and community’ and stressed that ‘the Holy Week in Cartagena represents a living testimony of devotion that we must continue to pass on to new generations’.

During the so called ‘Cabildo’, more than a hundred new brothers were given their membership certificates, reflecting the remarkable growth of the Brotherhood, which has tripled in number in the last three years and is now at almost 700 members. The Sister Superior, Marién García Boj, highlighted the incorporation of many young people and underlined the spirit of unity that defines the brotherhood.

As part of the 80th anniversary of its first procession, the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Resurrected announced a special programme of events, with an extraordinary procession scheduled for 31 May. Tribute was also paid to six brothers who have been members for 25 or 50 years, and another of the ‘Resucitó’ awards was presented to the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca Planes. Also, for the first time, two active members of the brotherhood, Ángel Pérez Martos and Carmen Rubio, received the award in recognition of their dedication and service.

The event concluded with the traditional Easter mona (traditional sweet cake), made by local confectioners, in an atmosphere of comradeship and celebration that demonstrated the vitality of the Brotherhood and its commitment to the future.
