The Spanish men's handball team won the battle for Olympic bronze against Egypt (33-31) with three players linked to the Catholic University of Murcia: Gedeón Guardiola, Ángel Fernández and Eduardo Gurbindo. The 'Hispanos' have provided a thrilling championship in which they have had the Spanish population on the edge of their seats with up to three extremely close victories, including the quarter-final against Sweden.

This medal is basically the end of a fabulous generation that has had us used to success and that has been able to put the icing on the cake with an Olympic triumph in Tokyo. This victory means four Olympic bronze medals for Spanish men's handball, the last of which was in Beijing 2008. Since then, they have been world champions in 2013, and won two bronze medals in 2011 and 2021. They also won the European Championships in 2018 and 2020, as well as the continental silver in 2016 and the bronze in 2014.
