Artificial Intelligence, which is now a reality in almost all fields, was incorporated some time ago by UCAM in its educational processes, but also in its management and services departments in order to improve their productivity. Among the actions carried out to increase knowledge of AI-related tools, the university community of the Campus de Los Jerónimos has once again hosted the meeting of the ‘Google for Developers’ groups of Murcia and Cartagena, in an event promoted by the students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering. On this occasion focus was on Android, Google's operating system for mobile phones and the most widely used one in the world.

For Belén López Ayuso, vice-rector of Virtual Education at UCAM, it is important to highlight the fact that it is the students who have prompted the celebration of this conference and she recalled that in the Region of Murcia there is still need for more technological vocations. 'They have created this "Google for Developers" group and we encourage and help them. We intend to make society perceive computer engineering as something normal and to motivate secondary and high school students, so that new talents can emerge. This bachelor's degree has many career opportunities; there are more job offers than candidates', she pointed out.

In fact, regarding the interest in technology and AI, Irene Ruiz, director of ‘Google for Developers’ in Murcia and student of Computer Engineering at UCAM, commented that ‘it is very important to encourage the use of new tools and applications and provide students with free training’. Furthermore, she stressed that this event ‘is intended to be a meeting point between students and companies, as there will be some networking opportunities and spaces for these interactions, which will later lead to internships and job offers’.

With regards to AI at UCAM, Belén López said that it has been an unstoppable reality for some time now: ‘We are integrating it into education, training teachers and guiding students on how to use it’. This has improved the quality of undergraduate dissertations. We are aware of the importance of teaching students about the technologies that are used in the professional world, and this includes AI. Moreover, in administrative areas, these tools are implemented to automatise mechanical tasks so that the staff can devote their time to more creative activities.
