The UCAM Language Center is a specialized institution dedicated to language teaching. Below, you can find answers to some of the most common questions asked by our students.
Yes. In all our courses, we always strive to provide native teachers who hold specific training in language teaching. Advanced levels are taught exclusively by native faculty members.
What language is used in the classroom?
From day one, all classes are taught entirely in the target language you are studying. However, there is no need to worry: our communicative methodology is specifically designed to help you adapt quickly and express yourself exclusively in your new language.
What is the maximum number of students per classroom?
The maximum capacity is 20 students per classroom, with a minimum of 8. The average group size is around 12 students.
Do the courses follow an official curriculum?
Yes, all our courses are strictly aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the international standard defining language proficiency from levels A1 to C2. This ensures your learning is clearly structured and recognized throughout Europe, whether you are studying to earn an official certificate or simply looking to progress with reliable guarantees.
Additionally, our Spanish courses are backed by the Instituto Cervantes Curricular Plan (PCIC), the most comprehensive reference guide for teaching Spanish as a foreign language. Thanks to this framework, each level has well-defined content and a coherent progression: you will know exactly what you are learning and why. In short, every course is supported by a solid academic foundation, even if the classroom atmosphere feels purely dynamic and engaging.
How can I find out my language level?
- For Degree Admissions: If you need to certify your language proficiency to meet an admission requirement for a specific degree, you must take the official UCAM placement exam. Exam sessions are published periodically on our website, so please check back regularly to avoid missing registration deadlines.
For General Language Courses (Spanish): If you simply want to find out your level to sign up for one of our courses, don't worry. Before each term begins, we conduct a level placement test for all students who have previously studied Spanish but do not hold an official certificate. This is a straightforward process that allows us to guide you and place you in the group that best fits your current knowledge.
How valid are the certificates issued by the UCAM Language Center?
At the end of the course, all students receive a certificate indicating their corresponding level according to the CEFR, as well as the total number of hours completed. If a student requires an internationally recognized official certification, they have the option to register for official external exams depending on the language chosen.
Please note: We certify proficiency levels at an internal UCAM level as a university-specific qualification (título propio) for curricular purposes. Acceptance at other universities or external centers depends entirely on the receiving institution.
If I want to go on an Erasmus exchange, do I need to certify my foreign language level?
Holding an official certification of a B1 level or higher, either in English or in the language of your host country, counts as additional merit in international mobility calls (such as Erasmus or UCAM's own exchange programs).
You should also keep in mind that many destinations establish specific language requirements, which are often higher than a B1 level. Therefore, it is highly important to certify a language level equal to that required by your preferred destination before applying for a mobility spot. Furthermore, you can take advantage of your stay abroad to further improve your language skills and subsequently certify higher levels.
Will I get a refund if I cannot attend my chosen schedule?
To resolve this issue, we highly recommend reviewing our Terms and Conditions and Cancellation Policy, where you will find detailed information regarding the refund process.
Is it mandatory to take the placement test before starting the course?
It is mandatory for all students who cannot provide an official certificate for the level immediately preceding the one they wish to study. If you do not have proof of that level, you must take the test, and your results will be sent to you via email, phone call, or WhatsApp message.
While the test results do not strictly block entry to other levels, it is highly recommended to join the group that matches your true proficiency. Otherwise, you risk falling behind during classes, slowing down the pace of classmates who do have the required level, and ultimately failing the final course exam.
