THE World University Rankings, one of the world’s three most influential university rankings alongside the Shanghai Ranking and QS World University Rankings, published its 2027 edition today. The ranking once again includes the Universidad Católica San Antonio (UCAM), which has now climbed the rankings for the seventh consecutive year among the world’s leading higher education institutions. Times Higher Education selected 2,297 institutions across 118 countries and assessed them against a range of criteria, placing UCAM in the 1401–1600 band worldwide.

In the ‘Research’ pillar, THE WUR assesses criteria including research reputation, the university’s ability to secure research funding and productivity. The results show that UCAM’s score has increased by 47.6% over the past two years. It has also made significant progress in research quality, which THE assesses through factors such as citation impact and research influence. As a result, UCAM ranks among Spain’s top three private universities for research.

Similarly, in ‘Industry’, which assesses the transfer of university knowledge to business and industry, UCAM’s score has risen by 68% since 2024. This reflects its close ties with the business community and its commitment to connecting the knowledge taught in the classroom with the real-world needs of different sectors. UCAM is ranked second among Spain’s private universities in Industry in THE WUR, behind only the University of Navarra.

UCAM’s strong performance in these areas once again demonstrates the institution’s firm commitment to basic and applied research, technology transfer, educational innovation and collaboration with the business community.

Commitment to internationalisation

UCAM’s international outlook is another area highlighted by THE WUR 2027, which places it among the top ten universities in Spain. International students currently make up 21% of its student body, representing 135 countries. This contributes to a diverse environment across its campuses in Murcia, Cartagena and Madrid, while facilitating links with universities and research centres around the world.

UCAM is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, with more than 22,000 students across its three campuses in Murcia, Cartagena and the recently opened Madrid campus, as well as international centres in India, Dubai and Egypt.
