The Gala del Deporte de la Región (Regional Sports Gala) 2024 will be held on Wednesday 11 December at the Hotel Nelva to recognise the main sporting figures. Among the main protagonists will be athletes, coaches and teams from the Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia. Eva Navarro, elite footballer and UCAM student, will receive the award for Best Female Athlete, after establishing herself as a key player in the Spanish National Team, while UCAM Murcia Basketball Club will receive the award for Best Sporting Achievement for its historic season. Likewise, Sito Alonso, coach of the basketball team, will be awarded Best Coach of the Year. 

These awards highlight the commitment and outstanding trajectory of UCAM in the field of sport, consolidated as a reference in national and international sport. Eva Navarro, who currently plays for Real Madrid and played a key role in the recent international success of the Spanish National Team, has become an example of the sporting excellence that UCAM promotes among its students and athletes. 

Meanwhile, UCAM Murcia CB, which has achieved the runner-up position in the Endesa League and the bronze medal in the FIBA Champions League, has made history thanks to its commitment and effort, leaving an indelible mark on the Spanish basketball scene. The leadership of his coach, Sito Alonso, has been fundamental to these achievements, which has earned him the distinction of being named Coach of the Year. 

The gala will also pay tribute to the UCAM athletes and coaches from the Region who represented Spain at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, highlighting the work of José Antonio Carrillo as athletics coach and the participations of Eva Navarro, athlete Miguel Ángel López Nicolás, table tennis player María Xiao Yao and basketball players Laura Gil Collado, Sonia Ruiz Escribano and María Victoria Alonso. 

The event, organised by the Autonomous Community of Murcia in collaboration with the Sports Press Association of the Region of Murcia, will also include the presentation of other awards that highlight the talent and effort of athletes, coaches and clubs from the Region of Murcia in disciplines such as tennis, indoor football and motorcycling.
