Last week began with a packed calendar of activities at Universidad Católica de Murcia San Antonio. The Volunteering Service, the Sports Service, the Library, the Career Guidance and Information Service (SOIL)Protocol, the NutritionDental and Podiatry clinics, the HiTech high-tech incubator in health, sport and food, the Sports Center gym, the iRadio university radio station, the UCAM Language School, the UCAM Research Centre for High Performance Sport CIARD, the Symphonic Orchestra as well as the University Discantus Choir all came together in the Plaza de las Pérgolas on the Murcia Campus to show students, especially new students, all the options and opportunities that the institution offers them for a complete university experience. This was part of the events of the University Welcome Week #HolaUCAM for this academic year 2024-25, in which students from the Murcia and Cartagena campuses took part.

Cultural, sporting and recreational activities were organised in addition to the information stands, with the involvement of several sponsors. Some of the most popular activities were the UCAM Esports x University activities and the hot air balloon. Players from the UCAM football and basketball teams came to the campus to compete with the students in a free-throws game. There was also a gastronomic area. Students from the UCAMPACITAS programme also took part in the events, as well as the game of petanque organised with ASTRAPACE.

As is now traditional, the culmination of the University Welcome came with two of the most eagerly awaited events: the Milla Universitaria (University Mile) and the large-scale paella, in which more than 1500 portions were served. Pedro Acosta, motorcycling rider from Murcia, was in charge of starting the race, in which more than 250 students and workers took part, with Abdelmonaim El Khayami winning in the male category and Sabina María Rico in the female category.

From more than 120 countries

Students from China, Brazil, Peru, Italy, France, Egypt, Portugal, USA, Argentina, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Morocco, France, Germany, and a total of 120 countries proudly waved their flags at the UCAM International Welcome ceremony, held this week at the BeSoccer La Condomina Stadium. María Dolores García, UCAM President, welcomed the more than 1100 new international students joining Universidad Católica de Murcia this academic year, a number that marks a historic milestone for the institution. These students will attend undergraduate, master's and doctoral programmes, consolidating the international presence in the diverse programmes UCAM offers. This significant presence of international students reinforces UCAM's commitment to educational excellence and its global focus.
