UCAM sponsors the Waykup Forum organised by INFO
This event, which takes place today and tomorrow at the Auditorio Víctor Villegas in Murcia, will connect more than 130 national and international investors with a hundred startups
UCAM, through its innovation and entrepreneurship hub UCAM HiTech, joins the Waykup Forum as one of its main sponsors. The forum is organised by the Instituto de Fomento de la Región de Murcia (Murcia Regional Development Institute). In this way UCAM is once again reaffirming its commitment to entrepreneurship and university-business technology transfer, as well as contributing to the development of talent and innovation.
The Waykup Forum has established itself as one of the nationwide key events, and in this edition, it will connect more than 130 national and international investors with a hundred startups. All this with the aim of boosting the business fabric and promoting innovation. With the participation of UCAM HiTech, the event reinforces its vocation to be a platform that accelerates innovation and the growth of new business projects, fostering collaboration and knowledge transfer between all the involved stakeholders. With this type of events, both institutions continue to work together to ensure that the Region of Murcia becomes a nationwide benchmark for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Fernando López Miras, President of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, visited the stands of the startups present at the event accompanied by María Dolores García, UCAM President; María Isabel López, Regional Minister of Enterprise, Employment and Social Economy, and Joaquín Gómez, INFO Director.
López Miras stated that ‘there is no other place in Spain that supports innovative entrepreneurship in a more decisive way’ and highlighted the involvement of the regional government, through the INFO (Instituto de Fomento), to promote the arrival of private capital to innovative start-ups. For her part, the UCAM president recalled that the institution has now participated in three editions, which is ‘a clear sign of the firm commitment that we at UCAM show to entrepreneurs on a daily basis, providing them with access to the financial resources necessary for their growth and to generate a positive impact on society’. She also stressed that ‘we are the Spanish university with the highest entrepreneurship rates among our graduates, which means that we are succeeding in stimulating the students’ entrepreneurial spirit’. Regarding the daily work carried out by the institution, María Dolores García assured that ‘our commitment to entrepreneurship is unwavering, fundamentally through UCAM HiTech, which plays a fundamental role in the promotion of scientific entrepreneurship in the Region of Murcia and has become a national reference for those who seek to transform science into solutions for society’.
Scientific entrepreneurship community
The UCAM hub, part of the Incyde Foundation's network of high-tech incubators, plays a key role in promoting scientific entrepreneurship in the Region of Murcia, creating a favourable environment for innovative ideas to become business realities. Through initiatives such as UCAM HiTechies, a programme that trains and accompanies researchers and entrepreneurs on their way to creating science-based start-ups, and the scientific entrepreneurship community, which connects entrepreneurs, investors and experts in the sector, this hub has become a benchmark for those seeking to transform science into solutions for society.
‘Our commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation in the Region of Murcia is reinforced through collaborations with events such as Waykup, which allow us to connect talent with investment opportunities,’ said Carlos Caballero, director of UCAM HiTech. ‘UCAM University and our innovation hub continue to be committed to promoting regional entrepreneurship, with a special focus on scientific entrepreneurship and technology transfer, key to the development of the knowledge economy in the region’.
