Continuing aid for those affected by the DANA. With this aim in mind, UCAM has been carrying out a solidarity campaign on its Murcia and Cartagena campuses to collect materials to send to the areas affected by this natural disaster.

The goods deposited by the UCAM students and workers will be distributed in the affected areas by the Special Naval Warfare Forces of the Spanish Navy and the logistics company from Fuente Álamo, Francés Díaz, which collected all the donated products this morning at the Los Jerónimos Campus.

Among the materials collected are bottled drinking water, non-perishable food, hygiene, cleaning and disinfection products, basic reconstruction items, emergency tools, clothing and blankets.

Antonio Alcaraz, vice-rector of University Outreach, has valued the various solidarity actions that UCAM is carrying out in favour of the victims of the storm, stressing that ‘the response has been very good. We have already chartered six buses of volunteers, as well as having sent, as we are doing today, food and basic products.

Sending volunteers

UCAM also sent 200 volunteers to the Valencian towns of Catarroja and Algemesí last Thursday and another 50 on Sunday, where they carried out cleaning work in schools, parishes and private homes. More than 800 members of the Academic Community registered to take part in this action, which had to be reduced in number for logistical reasons.

The displaced volunteers highlight the feeling of gratitude for doing their bit for this cause and send a clear message to society as a whole: We need to keep on helping, the gestures of solidarity have been huge, but there is still a lot to be done!

The UCAM Volunteer Service plans to carry out new actions in the coming days thanks to the exceptional response of the university community, with hundreds of people willing to continue collaborating in whatever way necessary to help those affected by the storm.
