UCAM Podiatry inaugurates its facilities
The university podiatry service is located at the Virgen de la Caridad clinic, in Olof Palme street (Murcia) and it will be used both for undergraduate and postgraduate students’ internship programmes and for external patient’s care.
The Podiatry Service of UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia has commenced its activity. This new centre will have the best services and the latest technology in the fields of biomechanics, sports, paediatric and geriatric podiatry and treatment of diabetic foot.
In this sense, the treatment, through biomechanics, of problems such as flat foot and cavus foot, plantar fascitis and muscular contractions, among others, stands out.
Likewise, the professionals of UCAM Podiatry will advise patients on the type of footwear that is more adequate for both athletes and patients in general.
In the field of paediatric podiatry, congenital deformities in children as well as deformities of flat foot and cavus foot will be treated.
During the inauguration of this service, held this week, José Luis Mendoza, president of UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, accompanied by the persons in charge of the Bachelor's Degree in Podiatry as well as by teachers and students, highlighted that “the mission carried out through this specialisation in podiatry is a service to society”.
A well-consolidated specialisation at UCAM
The Bachelor’s Degree in Podiatry was launched at UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia for the academic year 16-17 and UCAM is the only university that offers this degree in the Region. Furthermore, it has the first chair, at a national level, of Foot Surgery, directed by Dr. Óscar Izquierdo, president of the National Association of Surgery.
On the other hand, at a European level, there is a project to start training professionals from the Netherlands who want to receive their training at UCAM. Likewise, in collaboration with Universidad Hispanoamericana de Panamá (UNHIPA), it teaches this Bachelor’s Degree jointly.
