UCAM opens a branch of its Spanish Institute in Alexandria
After Dubai, this is the second centre of its kind to be set up by the Murcian institution in the Middle East.
The teaching of Spanish and the dissemination of Spanish culture. This is the main goal of the UCAM Spanish Institute inaugurated by the Universidad Católica de Murcia in Alexandria (Egypt), in addition to the one opened almost ten years ago in Dubai. This is the second centre set up by the Murcian institution in the Middle East. It is a milestone in the expansion of UCAM in the Arab world, where it has not stopped growing, both in terms of the number of students and services offered.
The inauguration was attended by Magdalena Cruz, Cultural Counsellor of the Spanish Embassy in Egypt; Alberto Fernández, Director of the UCAM Spanish Institute in Dubai and supervisor of this new project; Ernesto García, Director of International Partners of the Strategic Alliances Unit of the Universidad Católica de Murcia; Osama Mohamed, CEO of AGES (Egyptian education agency collaborating in this project); Mahmoud Mostafa, Director of the UCAM Spanish Institute in Alexandria, as well as local authorities and staff of the new facilities.
A milestone for UCAM
UCAM Spanish Institute in Alexandria will prepare Egyptian students who want to study in Spain, by teaching both the Spanish language and its culture and habits. They will also offer courses for children and adults who wish to learn the language of Cervantes.
Magdalena Cruz congratulated UCAM for this project and expressed her support, stating that ‘I am very pleased to share these moments with you. From the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in particular from the Spanish Embassy in Egypt, we strive to promote the knowledge and use of Spanish.’
UCAM has emphasised that the opening of this centre marks a milestone in the history of the University and in the promotion of Spanish language and culture in the Middle East.
‘This Spanish Institute in Alexandria clearly reflects the ideals of UCAM. We want this to be a place where learning and mutual understanding are encouraged, offering the opportunity for Egyptian students to continue their studies at our university with guaranteed success,’ said Ernesto García, Director of International Partners of the Strategic Alliances Unit of the Universidad Católica de Murcia during the ceremony.
