Following the summer break, second-year and above students returned to UCAM today with renewed energy and the excitement of reuniting with their classmates. They will be joined by first-year students next week; students of the Bachelor’s Degrees in Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing had already started last week.

The resumption of teaching activity at UCAM’s Murcia and Cartagena campuses coincides with the opening of its Madrid campus, marking a milestone in the University’s history as it welcomes its first students, at an event presided over by Rector Josefina García.

Among the new developments this academic year is an expansion of UCAM’s academic offering, with the addition of the Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science and four Master’s Degrees: Higher University Teaching, Neuroeducation, Artificial Intelligence and Legal-Labour Consultancy.

30th anniversary marked by growth in student numbers

UCAM celebrates the 30th anniversary of its founding this year. It was established in November 1996 and classes began a year later, in October 1997, with its first 660 students. This academic year, more than 22,000 students are studying across its three campuses, 21% of whom are international students from 135 countries. The institution continues to grow, with student numbers currently 5-10% higher than at the same point last year. However, final figures are not yet available, as enrolment remains open for many programmes, although some are already full.

Cartagena’s first medical graduates

The 2026-27 academic year will also be remembered as the year Cartagena sees its first UCAM-trained doctors graduate, bringing to fruition the project that the University’s founder, José Luis Mendoza, championed for his home city. Now entering the final stretch, these students began their sixth year yesterday with a simulation exercise on acute and chronic respiratory failure. In addition, the Cartagena Campus is opening new facilities for the Faculty of Nursing.

The new Madrid Campus

Another milestone this academic year is the start of academic activity today, Wednesday, at the UCAM Campus in Torrejón de Ardoz, bolstered by its strategic alliance with the Spanish Olympic Committee. The campus opens its doors with an academic offering focused on health and sport, with Bachelor’s Degrees in Nursing, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Double Programme of Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science and Technology and Bachelor’s Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
