UCAM inaugurates its Veterinary Hospital
The centre, which provides 24-hour clinical care to the entire community, is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and enhances the practical training of the Veterinary Degree programme
The UCAM Veterinary Hospital was inaugurated this morning with the opening ceremony of its facilities, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that offers high-quality training for its Veterinary Degree students.
The ceremony was attended by María Dolores García, UCAM president, and Fernando López Miras, president of the Region of Murcia, accompanied by the regional minister for Universities, Juan María Vázquez, the university rector, Josefina García, the vice-dean of the Veterinary Medicine Degree, Llanos Martínez, university executives and representatives of numerous entities related to the sector.
The UCAM Veterinary Hospital, located in the La Noria Shopping Centre, has CAT scans for small and large animals and regenerative medicine therapies for both. In addition, it has advanced systems for arthroscopy and endoscopy, as well as for selective surgery, allowing for safe and technologically advanced planned care.
The hospital, which is open to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, offers permanent coverage for both emergencies and hospitalisation, integrates an Equine Reproduction Centre and specific areas of sports medicine, expanding its capacity for diagnosis, treatment and clinical follow-up. It also has a soft-ground track for diagnosing lameness and equine hospitalisation boxes.
At the inauguration, the UCAM president emphasised that ‘I have to pay tribute to José Luis Mendoza, my husband, because he liked everything to be of the highest quality, as has been done here, and as animals deserve’. In the same vein, Fernando López Miras explained that ‘the inauguration of this UCAM university veterinary hospital is another step forward, an advance in veterinary medicine, innovation, research, health and practical training in the Region of Murcia.’
The event concluded with an equestrian and musical show by the young rider Agustín Solano “El Solanito” on the horse Desafío and the artist Mariló.
One of the hallmarks of the UCAM Veterinary Hospital is its close collaboration with external clinical veterinarians, acting as a reference centre for cases requiring advanced care or urgent attention. This coordination makes it possible to offer comprehensive and multidisciplinary care, while strengthening the professional veterinary network in the region.
Its teaching and advanced simulation facilities include an Anatomical Models Room, a Simulated Clinical Hospital, a Virtual Dissection Room and a Dissection and Necropsy Room, which allow complex clinical situations to be reproduced with a high degree of realism.
The simulation area also has state-of-the-art equipment, such as the Diesel K9 model (TraumaFX® Advanced Canine Medical Trainer), incorporated for training and applied research in various areas of veterinary knowledge, a high-tech simulator that recreates multiple physiological and pathological scenarios, offering students immersive learning in conditions very close to clinical reality. The centre also has the QVET tool, the leading veterinary management software, the use of which is part of the learning process from the start of the degree.
Degree in Veterinary Medicine
UCAM offers this degree in bilingual mode in response to the need to adapt study programmes to the international demand for these professionals. The degree includes growing veterinary disciplines such as Physiotherapy and Animal Welfare, which complement the students' training. In addition, it offers students numerous internship agreements with agri-food companies, farms and veterinary clinics which, together with UCAM's own newly opened Veterinary Hospital for small and large animals, provide an environment that allows students to apply all the knowledge they have acquired.
