UCAM inaugurates an International Volunteering programme in Cuba that will be extended to other countries
Moreover, UCAM continues with its free training in Havana, where it has graduated 28 students in economic management and 80 in cooking and gastronomy. The various vocational training courses offered by the university, which are sponsered by the Moneda Cubana have already trained 1,500 youngsters.
UCAM's social and educational activities in Cuba commenced over a decade ago, promoted by its founder José Luis Mendoza. This week, the University, represented by its Vice-Rector for University Outreach, Antonio Alcaraz, and the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Gonzalo Wandosell, has inaugurated the International Volunteering programme with young Cubans of the 'Moneda Solidaria’ in Havana. This is an initiative that has been made possible thanks to the collaboration framework between the Local Development Project (PDL) 'La Moneda Cubana' and UCAM.
La Moneda Solidaria is made up of young people from the Caribbean country committed to community service, who have been working for several months to support those who are in greatest need. Now, with the International Volunteering project, the aim is to promote values of solidarity, empathy and social commitment among young people from different countries, strengthening community work and the development of sustainable projects. Antonio Alcaraz highlights ‘UCAM's constant support for this type of initiative, which strengthens the link with local communities and promotes positive and lasting change’.
Free training
This new project adds to the training that the University is already providing in Cuba, such as the Course in Economic-Financial Management, which has graduated its first 28 students, as well as the different specialities in cooking and gastronomy, where 80 new students have graduated.
These courses, offered free of charge by UCAM in Cuba, are aimed at training young entrepreneurs who have not had access to this type of training, providing them with tools and knowledge to enhance their skills and their impact on the local social and economic fabric. The second edition of the Economic-Financial Management course has also been launched, with 40 students enrolled. In the various vocational training courses offered by the university under the auspices of the Moneda Cubana, some 1,500 young people have been trained so far.
