UCAM graduates 300 students in Havana as university specialists in Cuisine and Cookery

They belong to the seventh edition of the project 'La Moneda Cubana: Youth Training Programme'. During the ceremony a moving tribute was paid to the UCAM founder, José Luis Mendoza, the Universidad Católica de Murcia being the institution which provides this training.

Facilitate access to the labour market for young people in Cuba is the objective of the University Specialist Degree in Cuisine and Cookery offered by UCAM in Cuba as part of the social and educational project 'La Moneda Cubana: Youth Training Programme', which this week graduated 300 students in its 7th graduating class. Thanks to this programme, which lasts two years and is equivalent in Spain to a Vocational Education and Training. Students who are not in the academic or work environment can follow different training programmes under the umbrella of UCAM, specialising in areas such as tourism, hotel and catering, cookery, languages, etc.

The event, held at the Convention Palace in Havana (headquarters of the Assembly of People's Power of Cuba), was presided over by Guillermo García Frías, Major of the Revolution; joined by Ángel Aguilera Castillo, general coordinator of the 'Moneda Cubana' Project; and, on behalf of UCAM, Antonio Alcaraz, academic coordinator of the Project and vice-rector of University Outreach, and Gonzalo Wandosell, dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business.

During the event, a moving tribute was paid in memory of the founder of UCAM, José Luis Mendoza Pérez, who had a close relationship with the heads of important Cuban institutions.
 

At the event, Regla Acosta Zuaznavar, director of the Provincial Training Centre of Commerce of Cuba; Maydolis Bueno Vargas, director of Science and Innovation of the Office of the Historian of Havana; Chef Eddy Fernández Monte, president of the Federation of Culinary Associations of Cuba; and Freddy Esteban Francés Gallo, vice-president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power of Old Havana; were present.

The Murcian institution has been providing training in cooperation with several Cuban institutions since 2008 and is planning a course on social volunteering in collaboration with 'La Moneda Cubana'.
