UCAM Esports, the only professional club of electronic sports of the Region

The university team starts on Monday 18 January the League of Legends Superliga season

UCAM Universidad Católica de Murcia started to work with electronic sports in 2016 with the launching of a pioneer international chair in this subject. As with traditional sport, the University has also created a scholarship plan for these players. An example of this is José Manuel Pardo, a young promise of the esports university team of UCAM, who studies to obtain the Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management (ADE) and received the INTEL-UCAM scholarship, with which he will be able to balance his sports career with the professional one.

UCAM Esports Club also has a League of Legends professional team that represents the Region of Murcia in the national first division. For the 20/21 season, the team will be able to count on the talent and professionalism of veteran players of the university team, as well as of two new members who will lay a solid foundation for the team.

The team with be captained by the Ad Carry Rafael ‘Rafitta’ Ayllón. He will be accompanied by famous players of the university team such as Joao Miguel ‘Baca’ Novais Bigas (Mid) and Pedro ‘Plasma’ Simoes Ribeiro (Support). The two new members are the Dutch “jungler” Maik ‘Hades’ Jonker, who stands out for having obtained the first position in the two editions of 2020 of the Dutch League and of the Czech Top Laner, and Jakub ‘Dreedy’ Viceník, known for his ‘Pentakill’ in the grand finale of the 2019 Portuguese League.

Gonçalo ‘Crusher’ Brandão will continue being the coach, together with David ‘Saba’ Sabater (Manager) and Mario ‘MarioSCT’ Martínez (Analist). During the presentation of the team, ‘Crusher’ said that he feels very comfortable working with this roster: “Our expectation for this split is to reach, game after game, the play-offs and to obtain a safe spot in the European Masters. Although it will be hard, we are sure we can do it”.

The first competition of the SuperLiga, the most important league of League of Legends and other competitive videogames in Spain, organised by Liga de Videojuegos Profesional, will take place on January 18, at 7:00 p.m., versus the BCN Squad and it will be possible to watch it via: twitch.tv/lvpes.
