The Catholic University of Murcia has signed a collaboration agreement with Electronic Sports Training Gamers to create the University Professorship of eSports. The president of the UCAM attended the event along with Tao Martinez, managing partner of the entity Training Gamers. The director of the professorship will be Sergi Mesoreno, also the director of strategy of the Professional Videogames League. He was elected due to his extensive experience in the sector of eSports at organization and communication fields.


"It is a first major step in the field of electronic sports because it is the first professorship of eSports worldwide. The professionalization of eSports is taking place in many countries, Spain included; thus, the University is looking forward to provide the necessary trainings and resources to reach this goal.  " Tao Martinez said.


Meanwhile, Sergi Mesoreno commented "it is a historical moment for Spanish Sports because eSports is an area that is growing tremendously in recent years." He also mentioned that "Big international efforts are taking place to recognize those as sports, just like in South Korea where eSports are considered at an Olympic level class 2, because in Spain the professionalization of these activities has grown, not only at player stage, but also coaches, managers and clubs executives have increased a lot; there is huge potential. "


This professorship is a part of UCAM’s project and Training Gamers electronic sports, covering training and research of eSports, electronic sports. This young 'sports' discipline, which aims to become official in the near future, has a huge impact on a particular sector of the population, from 14 to 35 years.


Aside from the professorship, various multidisciplinary research projects will be launched as well such as workshops and courses to provide training about eSports since beginner to professional level.
