The Spanish Society of Blood Transfusion honours a UCAM graduate in Medicine
Isabel García de San Pedro has received the 'Best Poster Defence Award' for her Undergraduate Dissertation on the incidence of positive donors for infectious markers in the Region of Murcia over the last decade.
Isabel García de San Pedro, graduate in Medicine from UCAM, has investigated the incidence
of positive blood donors for the Hepatitis B and C virus, Human Immunodeficiency and Syphilis
in the Region of Murcia during 2010-2019 years. Her research, included in her Undergraduate
Dissertation under the direction of haematologist and lecturer Francisca Ferrer Marín, received
the 'Best Poster Defence Award' at the 32nd Congress of the Spanish Society of Blood
Transfusion and Cell Therapy.
In order to carry out the study, the annual reports of the Centro Regional de Hemodonación de
Murcia (Regional Blood Donor Centre of Murcia) and the state records of the Ministry of Health
on transfusion and donation were used as data sources. The author also conducted a sub-
analysis according to donor profile (new or recurrent) and compared their infectious marker
rates.
