Spanish K4 takes bronze at Paris 2024

The boat of Saúl Craviotto, Marcus Cooper, Rodrigo Germade and Carlos Arévalo, UCAM canoeists, finished with a well-deserved third place. With this podium, Craviotto becomes the Spanish athlete with most Olympic medals (6).

The men's K4 500 experienced a milestone that will feel even better when seen in perspective. Saúl Craviotto, Marcus Cooper, Rodrigo Germade and Carlos Arévalo, all of them UCAM's canoeists, arrived in Paris with the aim of winning the Olympic gold medal, and for more than half of the event it was in their hands, but a great finish by the Germans and the Australians left the Spanish in third place.

The four canoeists from the Universidad Católica de Murcia were Olympic runners-up at Tokyo 2020 and have had an exceptional Olympic cycle with the title of world champions in 2022 and gold at the European Games in Krakow 2023. Only a seventh place in the last world championship spoiled three almost perfect years, which made us dream of the topstep on the podium at the Olympic Games.

This bronze is quite an achievement, which adds to the record of Saúl Craviotto, the greatest Olympic medallist in the history of Spain. He already has six medals, ahead of the five of David Cal, as well as the honours of participating in all the Olympic events since Beijing 2008, of winning medals in all of them. Furthermore, he was the flag bearer for Spain in Tokyo 2020 together with the swimmer Mireia Belmonte. In the same boat there are 13 Olympic medals, because in addition to Craviotto's six, there are three for Marcus Cooper and two for Rodrigo Germade and Carlos Arévalo.

The women's K4 500 won an Olympic diploma with a sixth place in Paris. In it were the UCAM's canoeists Sara Ouzande and Teresa Portela. The latter is the Spanish athlete with the most Olympic participations in history, no less than seven, and in Tokyo 2020 she won the silver medal in K1 200m.

Third medal and sixteen UCAM's athletes with a diploma.

María Pérez and the paddlers of the men's K4 500 add three medals, one of each, to the three medals already won by UCAM's athletes:

Gold medal: Maria Perez (athletics - race walking relay mixed).

Silver medal: María Pérez (athletics - race walking)

Bronze medal: Saúl Craviotto, Marcus Cooper, Rodrigo Germade and Carlos Arévalo (canoeing - K4 500m).

Diploma: Carolina Marín (badminton); Lola Riera, Coti Amundson and Patricia Álvarez (hockey); Mar Molné and Fátima Gálvez (Olympic shooting); María Xiao (table tennis); Elia Canales (archery); Hugo González de Oliveira (swimming - 100 and 200 backstroke); José Quiles (boxing); Ray Zapata (gymnastics); Alberto Granados (water polo); Laura Gil (basketball); Adrián Vicente (taekwondo); and Sara Ouzande and Teresa Portela (canoeing).
