Under the motto ‘For an integral human development’, the activities of the 19th International Conference on Charity and Voluntary Work organised by UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia began today, Monday.

The most outstanding event of the day was the inauguration of the international exhibition by José Luis Mendoza García, director of Institutional Relations at UCAM; Antonio Alcaraz, vice-chancellor for University Extension at UCAM; Monsignor Sebastián Chico, auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena; and Francisca Pérez López, councilwoman for Elderly, Disability and Cooperation to the Development of the city council of Murcia.

More than 80 organisations meet at Paseo Alfonso X in Murcia and they will show throughout this week their social work and will offer to the visitors the different ways in which they can collaborate. The participating institutions work in different areas such as health, marginalised, migrants and disabled people.

At the end of the formal ribbon cutting for the opening of the exhibition, there was a tour of the different stands in which the people in charge of each of them explained the work they carry out to the university, religious and political representatives.

The Conference on Charity and Voluntary Work will be developed during this week and one of the most outstanding events will be the Ecumenical Event that will be held next Thursday 27 February, at 8:30 pm, in the Church of the Capuchin Fathers (Murcia).

Solidarity, fundamental pillar at UCAM

UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia carries out many work campuses, seminars and workshops in the field of volunteering with the aim of helping sick people and those at risk of social exclusion. Among them, it is worth mentioning the Work Campus in Peru, where help is given in education, health and infrastructures, as well as announcing the Gospel.

Accordingly, UCAM, with the blessing of Pope Francis, and together with the INCYDE Foundation, carries out entrepreneurship and employment programmes for the families in the poorest countries in Africa and Asia. Furthermore, the University also collaborates in the field of dentistry in South American countries through grafts and surgeries for children whose families cannot access them due to lack of financial resources.
