The UCAM athlete Mohamed Katir won the silver medal of the 5000m race at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. He did so in a race which has already become part of the history of Spanish sports. From the very first moment, the competition was very tactical, starting with a slow pace and accelerating afterwards, which benefited the Spaniard, who was very attentive to his main rivals.

Moving between the intermediate positions and with an intelligent and very brave strategy, Katir launched a devastating attack on the last lap which only the Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who overtook him in the last metres, was able to retaliate. A sensational race and a historic silver medal which adds to Mohamed Katir's track record.
