The III International Congress of Art, Architecture and Heritage - Space and Landscape 'Homage to Siza', organized by the International Chair of the Arts, 'Cristóbal Gabarrón' and the Degree in Architecture of the Catholic University of Murcia

Siza is a titan of the 20th century and a great architect of the 21st century. It is a luxury to work with a creator of this magnitude." This is how Cris Gabarrón, president of the Cristóbal Gabarrón Foundation, defines Álvaro Siza – the famous architect who is honored at the III International Congress of Art, Architecture and Heritage.

For Cris Gabarrón, the presence of Siza in Murcia and UCAM, and the project he is carrying out with him is a great opportunity: "We have created a research team at the UCAM (GEODA) in which a group of teachers and students are monitoring a project that Siza is doing in the Region of Murcia. We greatly value the participation of Siza, which is very important for the Region and a luxury for this University, having the possibility to follow from the origin of the project until the end.

Álvaro Siza is one of the most important figures of the architecture world in the last decades. According to Cris Gabarrón, his excellence is precisely in its simplicity: "From his work we can emphasize that his art is based on simplicity and the treatment of spaces. This congress is about space and landscape and Siza knows how to perfectly mark those two elements: the space that is created in a landscape and that which is already created.

In addition, he sent a message to the students and professors attending the congress: "Siza is a lighthouse to be followed. The Cristóbal Gabarrón Foundation and UCAM want to guide young people who will be the architects of the future; who will see why Siza is a great architect and why he has succeeded and can follow his example.

Estrella Núñez, Vice Chancellor of Research at UCAM, stressed the importance of students joining the congress as an opportunity to open new horizons beyond their own training: "Our young University is already taking its place in the organization of important congresses, like the one we host today. In this case it is a tribute to the great architect Siza and we see that it is a new opportunity of collaboration to carry out research projects and guide students towards the research spirit of professors and professionals.”

With space and landscape as background, Francisco Burgos, architect of Estudio Garrido & Burgos, was in charge of making the first paper on one of the most important works in which he has embarked: "It is a project developed during ten years that consisted of the burial of a large area of the M-30 of Madrid, near the river, to develop a large park. This experience was born with the purpose of recovering the presence of the landscape in the city as a stage of public space."
