Equipped with tools and protective materials, a group of 200 UCAM volunteers set off on 7th of November at 5am in buses from the Los Jerónimos Campus to the Valencian towns of Catarroja and Algemesí to collaborate in the recovery of these areas that have been affected by the DANA.

The UCAM volunteers, made up of students from various degrees as well as employeeshas been cleaning up schools, parishes and private homes damaged by the storm all morning.

The solidarity response to the call launched by the institution was overwhelming, with more than 800 people registering in just a few hours after the call was launched on Tuesday afternoon and which, due to availability and logistical reasons, was limited to 200 members for this first mission.

The displaced volunteers highlight the feeling of gratitude for doing their bit for this cause and send a clear message to society as a whole: We need to keep on helping, the gestures of solidarity have been huge, but there is still a lot to be done!

Prior to this expedition, UCAM officials and staff had already been helping in different affected areas as well as preparing the joint effort that has taken place today.

The UCAM Volunteer Service plans to carry out new actions in the coming days thanks to the exceptional response of the university community, with hundreds of people willing to continue collaborating in whatever way necessary to help those affected by the storm.
