Women’s talent, a key to UCAM’s strength
UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia is also one of the few universities in Spain to have a female Chancellor, Josefina García Lozano, and many of its bachelor’s degree and postgraduate courses, chairs and services are headed by women.
The Vice-Chancellor’s Offices for Virtual Teaching and Research, even more strategic during the pandemic, are headed by Belén López Ayuso, a computer engineer, and Estrella Núñez, a biochemist.
The role of women at UCAM Universidad Católica de Murcia has been essential since its foundation and has intensified in recent years. An example of this is Belén López Ayuso, vice-chancellor for Virtual Teaching, who, during the pandemic, coordinated, within the UCAM’s Strategic Plan of Digital Transformation, the migration of all face-to-face training to online modality in record time.
Research is another area that has been strengthened, even further, during the health crisis, and it is also headed by a woman, Estrella Núñez, vice-chancellor for Research.
Likewise, many degree courses are run by women: Business Administration and Management, Labour Relations, Tourism, Audiovisual Communication, Journalism, Psychology, Pre-school and Primary Education, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dance and IT Engineering. In the field of chairs, the ‘Women, Business and Sports’ chair stands out, which holds many activities and training courses throughout the year, focusing its objectives on promoting employment and entrepreneurship among women.
José Luis Mendoza Pérez, president of UCAM, highlights the “important and essential role played by women in the development of a fairer society and especially in strengthening the family as the fundamental nucleus of society”.
Events of the International Chair of Women, Business and Sport
This chair, directed by María Jesús Bonilla, is organising an event on Monday on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, in which representatives from the business, scientific and cultural world will participate. Furthermore, students from the Bachelor's Degree in Primary Education will read the conclusions of the work carried out on the Apostolic Letter ‘Mullieris Dignitatem’, by St. John Paul II, in which the figure of women in society is defended.
UCAM also works together with universities and institutions in France, Poland, Finland, Belgium and the United Kingdom in the European project ‘European Women in Sport- WinS’, which promotes women’s equality in sport.
