UCAM is one of the Spanish universities with the most subscribers on YouTube and therefore one of the first to exceed 100,000 followers on this video platform. This world-leading platform has more than 2,000 million monthly users. It has experienced tremendous growth in number of channels created, reaching 51 million. One of them is @portalucam belonging to the Universidad Católica de Murcia, which has become an effective tool for showcasing academic and promotional content.

La UCAM supera los 100.000 suscriptores en YouTube

Juan Pablo Mendoza, director of the Multimedia Department's video area, comments on the importance of the achieved milestone: ‘We are very proud because, since we opened the account in 2008 until today, getting 100,000 people to sign up to your channel is not easy. It takes a huge amount of daily work to create content. We are very grateful to all those who have worked at our department and to the teachers who are creating academic content to ensure that the account has very diverse and interesting material’.

The most viewed video on the channel is a birth simulation of the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing which has surpassed 4 million views. There are promotional videos which have had more than 2 and 3 million views and there are also videos with very technical explanations which have a great impact, such as Microeconomics I - The elasticity of supply and demand (more than 220,000) or Numerical Analysis - Iterative fixed point method (more than 190,000): ‘As it is open content, the channel attracts people from all over the world who are looking for a well-explained technical explanation of a problem and find high-quality academic videos on the UCAM channel’.

A key part of the work of the video department is to reflect the values of the institution and its many activities: ‘For us, the foundations of UCAM are a priority: teaching, research and evangelisation, as well as sports and internationalisation. Based on said cornerstones, we generate the highest quality content possible, which is why we have so many subscribers’.
