Students of the Infant and Primary Education Degrees of the Universidad Católica de Murcia have participated in the programme 'La Playa es mi cole' (The beach is my school), organised by the Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente School (Los Nietos). They have done so by teaching 150 students on several boats, in order to bring them closer to the Mar Menor and to commemorate the World Water Day. They were accompanied by Olympic Universidad Católica de Murcia canoeist David Cal.

Alfonso Vera, director of the school, thanked UCAM for supporting this innovative project, which “aims to make students aware of the importance of our Mar Menor, not only on an economic level, but also in the wider context”.

Sonia Martínez, Vice-Dean of Education at UCAM, explained that “we are delighted to collaborate in the educational field of Social and Natural Sciences to develop a series of activities with students from 3 to 12 years of age, whose objective is to care for and respect the environment, as well as the protection of the Mar Menor”. The event was also attended by Fernando López Miras, President of the Autonomous Community; Antonio Luengo, Regional Councillor of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and the Environment; and the Regional Councillor of Education, Mabel Campuzano.
