UCAM receives the Hippocrates Award from the Professional Medical Association of the Region of Murcia
The Universidad Católica de Murcia received this recognition ‘for its contribution to the medical profession’.
The UCAM president, María Dolores García Mascarell, received the Hippocrates Prize, awarded to UCAM by the Professional Medical Association of the Region of Murcia. It was awarded by the president of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, ‘for UCAM’s contribution to the medical profession’, as highlighted by its president, Francisco Miralles, during the annual gala dinner, held on Friday, at which the awards were presented, The doctors Vicente Vicente (for his career) and Pablo Sánchez Balsalobre (best MIR), the NGOs Asociación Pediatría Solidaria and Azul en Acción, and the president of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia (CARM), Fernando López Miras (Member of Honour with Gold Emblem), were also honoured.
In her speech, María Dolores García, who was accompanied by members of the Governing Council of the University and of the Faculty of Medicine, thanked the recognition of the training offered by the University, which is developed in such a way that ‘our students are doctors who work thinking about the dignity of the person based on the values of Christian humanism’. There are already ‘400 trained professionals and 6 graduation classes who have taken the MIR, with excellent results, providing a valuable service to students, their families and society in general’.

After reaffirming her gratitude to the Professional Medical Association of the Region of Murcia for the award and the collaboration that both entities enjoy, she concluded her speech by recalling ‘the recent loss of a colleague of yours and member of the UCAM Faculty of Medicine, Doctor Juan Madrid; a man who was dedicated to his profession, to his colleagues, to his patients, and even to those he has no relationship with, given his passion for the dissemination of healthcare’.
